Make Music With John Nolan

May 7, 2009 By Ben Minsky Leave a Comment

John Nolan (Straylight Run, Ex-Taking Back Sunday) is looking for people to make some music with.

Recently I’ve been trying to think of ways to bridge the gap between myself and the people who listen to my music. I’ve had a few ideas of how to do this, but there’s one that just occurred to me that I’d like to present to you: Let’s try to make some music together. Currently I’m in the process of preparing my solo album for release. While I’m doing that I’m not really spending much time actually making music, so I thought it might be cool for any of you who write and play music to send me some mp3s of instrumental pieces that I could put lyrics, melodies and maybe additional instrumentation to. I thought this could be an interesting and fun experiment for all of us. Even if you just have one part or an idea for a song, send it along. If any of you are into this idea send mp3s to johnnolanmusic@gmail.com. I’ll see what strikes me as inspiring and I’ll choose a few songs to work on and see what happens. Any thing that comes from this will just be put up on my myspace for people to listen to and I’ll credit anyone who’s music I use however they’d like to be credited. I won’t be trying to sell this or make it a business venture of any kind. This will purely be an experiment in what kind of music we can put together. Let’s see what happens!

Free Straylight Run MP3

January 19, 2009 By Ben Minsky Leave a Comment

Straylight Run is currently giving away a free download of the song “Drain You” by Nirvana. Click here for the song and check out the message from the band below.

On our last couple of tours we performed a cover version of the Nirvana song “Drain You”. When we got home we said to ourselves “Hey, we really liked playing that song! Why don’t we record it for fun and give it to our fans for free?” So that’s exactly what we did. Just click on the link below and you’ll be on your way to getting your very own free mp3 of Straylight Run performing “Drain You”.

The Used & Strylight Run On “Get A Life” Tour

February 27, 2008 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

The Used, Straylight Run, Army Of Me and the Street Drum Corps will join forces for the inaugural Rockstar Energy Drink Get a Life Tour, which will visit 25 U.S. college campuses, beginning April 2 at the NMSU Recreation Center in Las Cruces, N.M.

A full itinerary of colleges and venues will be announced shortly, but general admission tickets for the tour will cost between $20 and $25, with discounts available to students in certain markets. Ticket on-sale dates have not yet been announced.

Samsung Mobile is the presenting sponsor for the trek, which wraps May 10 at the Rialto Theatre in Tucson, Ariz. The mobile company is currently holding an online battle of the bands contest, where unsigned artists can compete for a slot on the jaunt. Voters are automatically entered into a contest to win $5,000, along with a trip to a show in the tour city of their choice.

The Rockstar Energy Drink Get A Life Tour is produced by Warped founder Kevin Lyman, his partner on the Rockstar Taste Of Chaos tour John Reese and CAA’s Darryl Eaton.

Lately I have been addicted to A Thorn For Every Heart‘s new album, It’s Hard To Move You. Due out in July this will be one of the years best sing along albums.

Also be sure to check out Boys Night Out who’s new self-titled album is in stores this Tuesday.

This past week I’ve really enjoyed Straylight Run‘s new album, The Needles the Space.

The Morning Light has impressed me as well with their debut effort, The Sounds of Love.

Lastly, on Thursday I caught a set by a great band called Love Me Electric. Have a great week everyone!

September 25, 2006 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

Straylight Run has just completed work on their second full-length album, set for release in the spring of 2007. Guitarist and vocalist John Nolan, drummer Will Noon, bassist Shaun Cooper and keyboard/vocalist Michelle Nolan produced the follow up to their critically acclaimed debut entirely on their own, creating a collection of songs that showcase the bandâ┚¬Ã¢”ž¢s diversity and creativity. The band, who are currently unsigned and looking for a label to partner with on their new release, has also announced a nationwide tour to preview their new material. The dates, which kick off November 1 in New Haven, CT, will also feature Kevin Devine, Matt Pond Pa and Street to Nowhere.

He continues â┚¬Ã…”We’ll be playing a lot of songs from our first record and EP in the set but we will also be rotating six or seven of the songs we recently recorded. response our new material gets.â┚¬?
