Review: Yellowcard – “For You, and Your Denial”

January 31, 2011 By Bryce Jacobson 3 Comments

Yellowcard is set to release their new album, When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes, on March 22. The bands first single “For You, And Your Denial” is available now on [itunes link=”http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/for-you-and-your-denial/id412806419?uo=4″ title=”For You and Your Denial” text=”iTunes”].

Yellowcard’s Ocean Avenue was a turning point for the band and by far a fan favorite. A mixture of long touring and a change in direction led to a few lack luster follow ups and eventually a hiatus in 2008.

With the bands return, they are also making sure to keep the energy high on their new album and “For You, And Your Denial” showcases this energy like its still 2003 and Ocean Avenue is playing on everyones retro iPod or even better, an actual CD. “For You, And Your Denial” features the classic violin we have come to know from Yellowcard while still brining the energetic guitars and what even feels like a bit of darkness to it.

Can we expect a great album from Yellowcard? Will it be like they never left? Will the fans still line up to hear their new songs or will they just be hoping to hear the classics? Let us know your thoughts on the song and the upcoming album.

Yellowcard

Yellowcard just finished recording their new album, When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes, set for release on March 22nd, 2011. The band has announced the U.S. portion of their tour kicking off on the East Coast in Sayreville, NJ’s Starland Ballroom on March 25th and circling around the country. The band will be direct support for Hopeless Records labelmates All Time Low on “The Dirty Work Tour” (Hey Monday and The Summer Set will accompany the bands on tour).

“This is our first U.S. tour in three years and we are so stoked on how it’s all coming together,” wrote the band in a joint statement. “We are all just as anxious as you are for next year to get here. It will be worth the wait, for all of us.”

Gearing up for the release of their seventh album When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes on March 22, 2011 via Hopeless Records, Yellowcard have called this record “the product of thousands of miles of traveling to write together, hundreds of emails containing demos and new ideas, and finally, eight weeks of twelve hour studio days, working together again as a full band.” With over three million of their previous records sold, Ryan Key (vocals/guitar) and original members Sean Mackin (violin) and Longineu (“LP”) Parsons (drums) continuing with Ryan Mendez (guitar) will be joined by longtime friend of the band Sean O’Donnell (bass), whose addition has been described as a “natural fit” for the current mindset and progression of the group. When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes was produced by Neal Avron, the “sixth member of the band” who has produced three of their previous albums including their breakthrough Ocean Avenue.

Yellowcard Signs To Hopeless Records, New Album 2011

August 3, 2010 By Bryce Jacobson 4 Comments

Yellowcard has officially signed to Hopeless Records and will be entering the studio in September with Neal Avron to record their new album due out in Spring 2011. Check out the press release for the announcement below.

Returning to their pre-major label indie beginnings, Yellowcard have recently signed with Hopeless Records for their seventh studio album, the first since 2007’s Paper Walls. For round seven (and after 3 million records sold), Ryan Key (vocals/guitar) and original members Sean Mackin (violin) and Longineu (“LP”) Parsons (drums) continuing with Ryan Mendez (guitar) will be joined by longtime friend of the band Sean O’Donnell (bass), whose addition has been described as a “natural fit” for the current mindset and progression of the group.

“Hopeless seemed to be the right place for us; they were really interested in working with the band, very proactive, and had a lot of great ideas for us,” says frontman/guitarist Ryan Key. “They’re giving us the opportunity to do exactly what we want with it, and we’re thankful to have an established fanbase that is already interested in what we have to put out.”

“We have all been big fans of Yellowcard since their early days” adds Hopeless Records President Louis Posen. “Our team is having a great time working with the band and we are thrilled that there is going to be a new Yellowcard album soon. We know the fans want new music and we are honored and humbled that we get to play a part in helping such a great band write the next chapter in their career.”

Key said the writing process has been like picking up just where they left off, that they “feel like kids again, having fun and driving around listening to the music we just created, no words yet, just the music over and over again.“ They will soon begin recording with their tried-and-true producer Neal Avron – “the sixth member of our band” – and are aiming for a spring release, enough time to take new material and the classic benchmarks out for a refresher.

“We’re talking about a ton of different ideas, and we’re itching to start as soon as possible,” Key said. “Ultimately, we want to make something the fans will love. What we love to do most, is look out from the stage and see people exploding with energy, and I think we keep that in mind while we are writing. We miss being out on the road playing for Yellowcard fans all around the world, and without their support we wouldn’t have a career.”
