Motion City Soundtrack and Columbia Records Part Ways

April 26, 2011 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

After only one release on Columbia Records, Motion City Soundtrack has parted ways with the label and are currently without a label. The band is currently working on their 5th studio release due out later this year. The band posted this message about the split on their tumbler.

Dear Children of the Revolution,
After a brief, but intense whirlwind-like love affair, Motion City Soundtrack and Columbia Records have parted ways. Even though America wanted it to work out, much like the marriage of Ryan Phillipe and Reese Witherspoon, it just was not in the stars. That being said, neither side holds any sort of ill will toward the other. We each gave it our best shot, but due to the ever changing musical climate, as well as other unforeseeable factors, we both felt that this would be in our best interests. So for now, we go it alone. We have been diligently working on Album #5, which we hope to have in your hands soon. What the future holds for us label-wise is anyone’s guess, but we can promise that there will be an onslaught of new material released and with ever increasing frequency. What we’re trying to say is: Hold on to your hats ladies and gents, for we have not even begun to unleash the true fury that is Motion City Soundtrack!

Justin Pierre‘s (Motion City Soundtrack) side project, Farewell Continental, has released a new EP which you can pick up in 12″ vinyl or as a digital download here. You can also check out a video for their song “Total Devastation” below.

“This is a music video staring The Farewell Continental Group of North America. It was directed by Shane Nelson. There are lasers, strobe lights, glow sticks, and christmas tree lights involved. If you have the type of epilepsy triggered by any of the aforementioned, we suggest you look away. If not, we suggest you feast your eyes upon what is truly the greatest music video of all time. Thank you. Goodbye.” [Read more…]

Motion City Soundtrack Start Popsickle Festival

November 10, 2010 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

Motion City Soundtrack will headline the first ever Popsickle Festival in their hometown of Minneapolis, MN on December 18th. The band is starting the festival in the vein of Lollapalooza and hope to continue it every winter. More information is available below.

Taking over Minneapolis’ famed  First Avenue and spilling over into 7th Street Entry, the all ages festival will feature headliners Motion City Soundtrack along with Minus the Bear, Foxy Shazam, Gold Motel, A Great Big Pile of Leaves, Now Now Every Children, One for the Team, Gospel Gossip, Take Cover and The Chord and the Fawn with more to be announced.

As one of the few festivals taking place in the winter time, Popsickle will fill the void that is much needed during the desolate set of winter months.  More than just a concert, Popsickle will provide fans a fervent day in December of music and friends and fun, that will keep them warm all winter long.

We wanted to start a festival in the vein of what Lollapalooza was to me in the early “˜90’s “” a bunch of bands that most likely would never have toured together, but were all doing something interesting and unique in that particular point in time. Our version of that will be much smaller of course, but the idea is the same.  We hope to make this an annual festival that takes place in Minnesota every winter and hopefully can continue to grow in both scope and girth. ““ Justin Pierre/MCS

Popsickle will introduce fans to new bands as well as introduce fans to each other!  The annual festival, a celebration of winter and great music, will be something fans can mark on their calendar and continue to look forward to every December.

November 3, 2010 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

Motion City Soundtrack‘s new video for “A Lifeless Ordinary” can be see over on Spin.com. The song comes from the bands latest album, [itunes link=”http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/disappear/id345578624?uo=4″ title=”Motion City Soundtrack – My Dinosaur Life” text=”My Dinosaur Life”].

Justin Pierre cites a trio of influences: “I wanted it to have the coolness and stupidness of Weezer, the absurdity of the Flaming Lips, and the nonchalance of Pavement, like, ‘We really don’t give a sh*t. It combines all these things that I like, all these little nuggets of ridiculousness.“
