New All-Digital Reissue Label

May 12, 2007 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

New York City punk label Mad at the World Records teams up with Anthology Records, the world’s first all- digital reissue label, to offer some of Mad at the World’s popular, early 80’s New York hardcore reissues. This will be the first time Mad at the World’s reissues are available in mp3 format in an online store, and Anthology will be the sole digital distributor for the next 6 months. Anthology just went live with the first record slated for release, the classic sole EP by the enigmatic Queens band Urban Waste, of whom Roger of Agnostic Front has said “they’re the band that got me into hardcore!” At the end of the month, Anthology will offer up the second release, the reissue of the Nihilistics’ debut album from 1983, one of the NYHC originals who were featured on the early “NY Thrash” compilation alongside the Beastie Boys and the Bad Brains. Rounding it out will then be the Urban Waste spin-off band Major Conflict (which feature the now-successful author and director of “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints,” Dito Montiel on guitar and vocals) and their retrospective “Sounds Like 1983.”

“We’re very happy to be working with Anthology,” says Mad at the World. “They were really happy with the way their Moondog (the ex-Gorilla Biscuits/ pre-Quicksand project) reissue came along approached us because they wanted to get more early hardcore in their catalog. They represent a very diverse catalog that almost reminds us of the way ROIR Records used to be 15 years back. We’re happy to be a part of it.”

Motion City Soundtrack Update

May 11, 2007 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

Motion City Soundtrack has posted an update on why their album has been delayed until September 18th. You can read the message from the band below.

I’m sorry this has all been so confusing. well, the truth is that the release date HAS been pushed back to september 18. we really wanted to hurry and get the record out on july 17, but it was proving to be more difficult as time went on. if i remember correctly, a bunch of you predicted that we’d be putting a record out around september-time and were REALLY surprised when you found out we chose july 17. well, you were right. we should have gone with YOUR guts. haha.

anyway, pushing the date back was the last thing we wanted to do – mainly out of respect for all of you. if it makes any difference, we feel a lot better having a little more time to breathe and more time to make final decisions. the bottom line is, we’re REALLY happy with the way everything is headed and we don’t want to rush anything just to meet a deadline.

thanks to each and everyone of you for understanding and for sharing your concerns. the last thing we wanted to do was upset the most important people in our careers (that’s YOU GUYS!).”

Fat Wreck Chords Signs…American Steel

May 10, 2007 By A. Renteria Leave a Comment

Fat Wreck Chords are proud to announce Oakland, CA’s American Steel to their label. Carrying on the grand tradition of the early East Bay sound, American Steel were adored locally and served as a pillar of the 924 Gilman Street scene from 1995-2002. They released three proper full length records and it’s safe to say that you could file American Steel’s 2nd album, Rogue’s March, right next to Rancid’s Rancid, Crimpshrine’s Duct Tape Soup and Jawbreaker’s 24 Hour Revenge Therapy. They are currently recording a brand new record at Sharkbite Studios.  On June 16th they will be playing at San Francisco’s Bottom of the Hill with Dead To Me.
