Paper + Plastick Records

February 12, 2009 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

Vinnie Fiorello has announced the launch of his new endeavor, Paper + Plastick Records, based out of Gainesville, FL. Fiorello is a founding member of legendary ska/punk band Less Than Jake, and founder/former owner of the successful label Fueled By Ramen (Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco).

The independent label will take a new and alternative approach to music retail by selling the highest digital quality music files available, along with deluxe digital packaging. The label will also only release physical music on exclusive, multi-colored and oddly shaped vinyl, making all Paper + Plastick releases a must have for recording buffs, vinyl collectors and music fans alike.

“I think that brick and mortar stores are a dying breed,” comments Fiorello. “Chain stores are folding and the stores that remain want you to buy a TV instead of showcasing new music. I choose not to worry about the CD. That’s also dying, so why try to keep it alive now? I would much rather support independent record stores by putting out independent music in the format that I love, the format that kept and keeps the underground vibrant ““ vinyl.”

Fiorello also plans to release music digitally via the Paper + Plastick website, www.paperandplastick.com, weeks before the music will be available on digital retail outlets such as iTunes, Amazon.com and Emusic.com. Music downloaded from retail outlets loose their integrity and bitrate, but music from PaperandPlastick.com will be high quality digital recordings. Two versions of each album will be available for purchase through the website with varying prices.

Standard edition: 320 Bitrate music file
Deluxe edition: Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) music files, hi-res album art, PDF booklets, and videos
Vinyl releases add the “Plastick” to the label’s name, which will also be home to a number of books. Fiorello has already authored a children’s book and first “Paper” release for the company, entitled Sometimes Robots Like Being Robots, which will be available this Spring.

Every Time I Die Signs With Epitaph Records

February 11, 2009 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

Every Time I Die has signed with Epitaph Records. A message from the band can be seen below.

“To be given the opportunity to start anew after existing for over ten years in an environment that has chewed up and spit out most bands in a quarter of that time is nothing short of a miracle” says vocalist Keith Buckley.  “We are extremely honored and humbled by the faith that our new family at Epitaph has placed in us to continue writing music that is true to ourselves and true to our supporters. While most bands are looking for their 15 minutes of fame, Every Time I Die knows that Epitaph is the ONLY label where the soil is fertile enough for punk/rock bands to thrive on the ethics that got them started and we are proud to hang our hats within their walls. Our first Epitaph release will be recorded this spring with Steve Evetts and thus far is proving to capture the excitement of our new lease on life and the aggressive energy we are notorious for. See you in hell, otherwise known as the road. ETID”

Mark Hoppus Releases New Song

February 10, 2009 By Bryce Jacobson 1 Comment

Mark Hoppus has released a new song that he did with Richard Gibbs. The song is on the upcoming soundtrack for the movie “Fired Up.” You can read a message from Mark below and pick up the song on iTunes.

A couple of months ago, I got a call from a friend of mine named Richard Gibbs. Richard scores films, and he invited me into his studio to collaborate on a song for a movie he was working on called “Fired Up.” We spent the next week working on an idea that he had, and built it into a song that’s now available on iTunes. Check it out. It’s got kind of 60’s beach party feel to it.
