Taking Back Sunday Update
Taking Back Sunday has posted an update on their writing process. Check it out below.
Hello Human Beings and various other life forms.
The current new song count is up to 12. Can you frickin believe it??? We’re still writing away and starting to figure out all the more advanced details of the forth (and 4th) coming Taking Back Sunday album. Details like who will produce it? Where will we record it? Just who exactly is playing the guitar? Am I wearing pants?
— right. now that I have your attention (and by no means as a way to bring you down) I would like to talk about something that is very important to me.
I recently became more aware of the situation in Darfur. While this has been covered in the news and you may have heard about it, the depth of the violence and unrest overwhelmed me. TBS will be participating with Dream For Darfur to try and do our part to bring awareness to this issue and help where we can. To find out about what is happening there and what you can do, please visit DreamforDarfur.org. I recommend starting at the ‘background’ section.
Just because this is taking place far away and you dont see it nightly on the news doesnt mean it isnt happening or that people dont need your help.Thank You
Matt
Fred Talks Taking Back Sunday Departure
Fred Mascherino (ex. Taking Back Sunday) recently did an interview stating his reasons for leaving Taking Back Sunday. You can read a bit of the interview below.
Mascherino was happy to clarify when he sat down with the Daily Forty-Niner a few weeks ago before a show at the Glass House in Pomona. He is on tour with his new solo project, The Color Fred.
“I know that it comes down on me,” Mascherino said. “I wish it didn’t. It was ultimately my decision, but I wish it didn’t seem like my fault. [The MySpace bulletin] was weird. It was kind of cold and not even from the band members. It’s hard because I’m the only one speaking about it, so it’s kind of all on me, and I don’t know what other people want to be said as far as how much of the truth they want to come out.”
The visually concerned Mascherino did his best to explain the departure without badmouthing the band. He cited writing problems, bickering and proposed changes that couldn’t be agreed upon as reasons for leaving. The one thing he did not say, however, was that he was leaving to pursue his solo career, the one explanation given by the band’s management.
“The idea that I left Taking Back Sunday strictly to do The Color Fred is incorrect,” Mascherino clarified. “I had been planning to release this record at this time. It was already set up. I was going to release it and do a tour, which I’m on now, and then go back and write the next record with them and record it. But along the line of a few months before and then on the Projekt Revolution tour, things were getting sour. I said, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore.’ It was making me miserable. I felt like I was changing who I was.”
So Mascherino told the band at the end of the tour that he wanted out, and it was announced about a month later. Taking Back Sunday has refused interviews to several major media outlets, including The New York Times and MTV. The band did announce, however, that Fred would be replaced.

We here at Taking Back Sunday just thought you might like to know what we’ve been up to.
As is turns out…making new music. We have come from our separate corners of the country to write and rehearse in a top secret location in NYC. We are sitting on a half dozen hot, fresh new songs. Im sorry, you may not hear them yet. This is just the beginning as, well, things still need to get in their right place. We are excited about what we are working on and most importantly we are having fun.
We have some exciting and interest things in the works and 2008 will be a big one. We want to thank everyone for staying with us and supporting us over the years. We wish you all Happy Holidays and Happy and Peaceful New Year.
Now go back to whatever you were doing. By the way, you look really good right now. I’m just saying.
