Article #15 – The Webisode

March 31, 2007 By Tyler Hayes 1 Comment

Well I guess you can add “Webisode” and “Vlog” to your dictionary of new buzz words in 2007. The internet generation seems to be able to churn out buzz words like no other. I think everyone is getting familiar with the word “Blog” (I hope so cause that’s what DFO is) and so a Vlog is just the video equivalent of a blog. A Webisode is technically defined more as an episodic video show but tends to get used as a broader term more and more.

It has now become standard procedure to keep a “studio diary” or a blog about the recording process. Tour diaries are also very popular and the band is able to keep fans involved in how things are going by posting entries on a website. The video versions of all these things have definitely been around before now but seem to have become very popular with the arrival of 2007.
The different mediums, such as text, audio, and video, are all still relevant in different contexts and with the world embracing the high speeds that the cable companies offer it’s not a big deal to stream a 3 minute video over the internet.

Well the big question is what does everyone think of video Updates, vlogs, and all the other newer ways that bands are trying to stay connected to their fans? Do you like watching the band tell you how things are going or would you rather read a short text update? If you don’t like them are there any suggestions for things to do instead, or ways to use video without just talking?

Project 86 Set To Release New Album Rival Factions

March 29, 2007 By Bryce Jacobson 1 Comment

Project 86 has set June 19th as the release date for their 6th full-length titled, Rival Faction.

As the name implies, Project 86 has delivered a confrontational 6th full-length, where not a single note, lyric, or track is wasted. This is, for certain, their most song-oriented and diverse release to date, proving that progression through evolution is a divine mandate. Expanding upon their patented sound, there are hints of everything from vintage Danzig, Psychadelic Furs, Joy Division, and early, east-coast hardcore. Frontman Andrew Schwab states, “We just wanted to write songs we would enjoy listening to ourselves. We started doing this because we are music fans first, and we didn’t have any preconceived ideas about what this album should be, beyond knowing that the songs themselves needed to be memorable.” From the Cure-esque drama of “Molotov” to the Queens of the Stone Age-like force of “The Kane Mutiny” to the Misfits macabre of “Illuminate” this is a rock n’ roll record with more variety than most, which will keep you interested from front to back. In a time when heavy music is as narrow as it is predictable, “Rival Factions” may just challenge you to redefine your terms. Look for it in stores everywhere June 19th!

Check out the official Project 86 podcast here and check out the band’s new video blog featuring Andrew, Randy, and Ulrich Wild here!
