Plus 44 Working On Next Album

December 3, 2007 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

Plus 44 are currently demoing 20+ songs for their next album. You can read a message from Mark Hoppus below.

I’m taking a couple of weeks right now to finish the Our Lunar Activities album. Tthose of you who came to the last +44 European tour will remember them. They are in the studio with us now recording a few more songs before their album is finished. Then Chris Holmes is mixing it. We’re three days in now, finished with the drums, and all of the guitars and bass for one song are done.

Also, for those of you keeping score, we have more than 20 songs in various stages of demo’ing for the new +44 record. Awesome.

Desoto Jones – Aurora

December 3, 2007 By Adam Weidman 1 Comment

Aurora

Artist: Desoto Jones
Album: Aurora
Label: Deep Elm
Purchase: Inter Punk
Release Date: November 27th, ’07

Overall: 8.0
Music: 8.5
Lyrics: 7.5
Production: 8.0

If there is such a thing as an independent “modern rock” record, then this is it! Desoto Jones brings forth solid musicianship, heartfelt lyrics, and a true passion for music that shines through on their sophomore effort, Aurora. Without hesitation the record kicks into high gear, its flow is seamless and the guitar-work is something to be celebrated. Aurora simply does not let up, from its blazing opener to the subtle acoustic-laced ballad “Nonfiction” on through the fitting closer, “Waiting.” I can see this album spanning a vast array of fans, as there really is something for everyone. I couldn’t let this release fly below the radar, and neither should you. Deep Elm Records has begun limiting their releases to 1,000 copies, so be sure to pick up Aurora!

Stolen Transmission Part Ways With Island Records

December 2, 2007 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

Stolen Transmission have parted ways with backing label Island Records. A message from the labels co-runner Sarah Lewitinn can be read below.

Stolen Transmission started IN MY BEDROOM as an indie label putting out hand made cds of bands that me and Rob Stevenson believed in. We werent funded back then, and we were really happy. We did everything because of how much we loved music. Now that I’ve had my experience with Island/Def Jam, I know how to actually do what’s necessary to release an album and develop artists, and I helped set up 9 amazing releases from Permanent ME, the Oohlas, Monty Are I, Bright Light Fever, the Horrors, Schoolyard Heroes, PlayRadioPlay!, Innerpartysystem, and the Photo Atlas. I’m so fucking proud that the label went from me and a bunch of interns sitting in my bedroom smoking and watching degrassi and eating guac i had just made to me sitting in meetings once a week with JayZ and now it’ll just go back to being run from my apartment again. We plan on continuing with Stolen Transmission and are really excited to be returning to our indie roots. Read the rest of her message here.

R.I.P. Quick And The Dead

December 2, 2007 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

Quick and the Dead have called it a day. The reasons for doing so is that musically they were being pulled in a different direction than what “Quick and the Dead” would allow. They have also gone through so many member changes that they just felt like starting anew. Shane Gould< Kerry Gould, and Bray Nelson have decided to continue on and record an ep then announce a new name. More news as it happens.

Indie Vision Music is doing a sale on the bands latest release for just $5. They also have the bands first album “Consider Your Options” on sale for $9.99.

You can also pick up an unreleased and rare second full length from the band that was never officially released for FREE here. It was recorded at the very end of 2006.
