The New Regime Premieres Series of Six Videos on imeem

March 2, 2009 By Bryce Jacobson 1 Comment

On Tuesday, March 10, The New Regime will premiere the first in a series of six live videos on imeem. Subsequently, imeem will exclusively debut a new video every Tuesday and Friday for three weeks on the artist’s imeem profile. The videos represent tracks from the debut album, Coup. Each video was intentionally filmed in a live, non show setting at Swinghouse Studios in Los Angeles. According to front man, Ilan Rubin, “Rather than miming to a meaningless video treatment, I chose to utilize the video to highlight what a band should do best: play live.”

The New Regime video premieres on imeem are scheduled follows:
March 10: “Order Restored”
March 13: “Take Control”
March 17: “The Collapse”
March 20: “Tap Dancing In a Minefield”
March 24: “This War Time”
March 27: “Haunt My Mind”

The Spores – Doompop

March 2, 2009 By Max Specht 1 Comment

Artist: The Spores
Album: Doompop
Label: SideCho Records
Purchase: SideCho Records Store
Release Date: October 14th, 2008

Overall: 8
Music: 8.5
Lyrics: 7.5
Production: 8

Doompop? Is it the cool new term to describe someone’s shoes? a new brand of lollipops? Or the latest album from The Spores? The answer would be the latter (although those lollipops sound pretty tasty), Doompop is the latest release from the band The Spores, it’s a genre defining record that meshes cool beats, strong lyrics, and catchy hooks for a one night stand on an apocalyptic dance floor.

The album begins with the instrumental “Blood Red Rose 2″, starting of the album with tapping mechanical drums until the techno breakdown lets you know what the album is all about. It’s very much a chaotic feeling listening to Doompop, but its the sort of “organized chaos” you just can’t help but embrace and lose yourself in.

Doompop retains a very cool, slick sense in every way. From the instruments, right down to the vocal delivery it’s a very cool affair. Right from the beginning, the sex-on-the-dance-floor sentiments exude on “Ghost Town”, or the roughly sensual vocal implications of “Faster Master”, it is an album that doesn’t falter in it’s ability to exude a strong sexuality to it.

Even though at times their are reflections of other female fronted acts in The Spore’s music (Metric, Shiny Toy Guns), for the most part they are able to stay original in their composition of songs, melding the real instruments (“The Spinning Wheel”) with their obvious techno persuasions (“Won’t Save You”). They create a great balance between what’s real and what’s not, adding great effect to the album as a whole.

Something that needs to be noted about Doompop is that, at its heart it is a very pop like record, filled with great vocal hooks and easy to access lyrics. While the atmosphere created in something very dark and chaotic, it’s hard not to get lost in it and truly enjoy what is happening. It showcases a spastic change from genre to genre throughout that makes this release something new every single time. All you can do in the end is embrace the chaos, and enjoy the ride.

These Green Eyes Interview- February 26, 2009

February 26, 2009 By Ben Minsky 2 Comments

geThese Green Eyes’ music is filled with loud, energized guitars and lyrics with hints of punk rock here and there. They have had the opportunity to share the stage with bands like New Found Glory and The Higher, and are quickly gaining recognition within the alternative music scene. Check out what Greg has to say about These Green Eyes music and their new album, Relapse To Recovery, that hits stores in March.

Thank you Greg for taking the time to answer these questions and Ben for setting up this interview.

Can you please introduce yourself and what your role is in These Green Eyes?

Hi I’m Greg and I played guitar in These Green Eyes

Where are you guys from? How did the band get started?

We’re a from madison connectitcut. Our other guitar is from albany. I played with our drummer mark all through highschool. Everyone just wanted to be in a band i guess.

So you have a new album, Relapse To Recovery, that is coming out on March 24. Overall, how do you feel about the album? What was it like working with producer Brian Mcternan?

Im very proud of Relapse To Recovery. Took allot of work as band to get that ball rolling. Brian is the man. He was like the sixth member of the band while we were there.

How is the album different from your Ghosts EP?

The ghosts EP is actually two songs from Relapse and two songs from our last full length House of Glass

What songs would you recommend new listeners check out? What songs are you most proud of and why?

Thats a tough one. I would say Words and Kick the Crutch those are easy to relate to. Im really proud of Time of Our Lives cause its a different than anything we have ever done.

Do you have any touring plans to support Relapse To Recovery?

Yeah no question about it. See you out there

Who would you say are some of your major musical influences?

Our friends and family being one. Any music that moves us.

On your MySpace it says that you have toured with bands such as New Found Glory and The Higher…I’m curious to know how playing along some of these well-known, bigger bands made you guys feel? Was it intimidating? Fun? Were they cool guys?

We have been lucky. Bigger bands have been very good to us. Its flattering when they tell you they’re into the band. The first day can be intimidating but most bigger bands have been where we are.

Do you have any funny/interesting/enlightening/entertaining stories from the studio or from the road?

Many. Its tough to decide. Its pretty awesome being able to see the countrys landscape and how different everywhere is. While we were in Baltimore recording we went to a bar with our guy at the label. so we kept buying one shot of patron and five shots of water. Kept giving him the tequila and we just kept taking them down till he couldn’t move. they have good beer down there to!

What has been the hardest part about being in a band? What about the most rewarding?

Its hard to keep your head on straight. Touring is a completely different lifestyle. Its amazing when you roll into this beat suburb and kids are there and excited to see you. It gets me excited.

What are your future plans for These Green Eyes?

TOUR. We are doing bamboozle which will be a ton of fun. We got some dates on the warped tour this year which we are all excited about.

Any last words for our readers at Driven Far Off?

Check the record out let us know what you think, and thanks for your time

Be sure to check out These Green Eyes on MySpace and pick up their new album Relapse To Recovery on March 24.
