Controlling The Famous on Hiatus

October 8, 2006 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

Controlling The Famous have gone on an “indefinite hiatus.” The band posted this message on their MySpace blog:

Hello Everyone, Max from Controlling the Famous here.

As most of you know, we decided that we’d be taking an “indefinite hiatus.” I just wanted to update everyone and let them know what’s going on. Like with any band, its a tough job to be on the road, touring non-stop, constantly away from family and friends, have no money (flat broke), and live out of a van. It can really wear a person down and leave you questioning why you decided to start playing music in the first place.

Anyways, we were supposed to leave next Tuesday for a tour to CMJ in New York City. Everyone in the band agreed to going and making the best of the situation even though some of the past few tours had been really rough. However, some words were said about the tour about a week ago, and it became clear that some band members were ready to move onto the next stage in their life. It is sad and unfortunate, but its a decision each individual member had to make themself. Its a cliche situation, but again, everyone is still friends and everyone will continue on their own paths. We truly loved playing songs together while it lasted. You will all be updated on their new endeavours whether its music related or not.

I will leave you with this…

I will personally be keeping the spirit of Controlling the Famous alive, by finding new people to play music with. The band name may change, but the music will keep going. I am in no way done playing music and hopefully all of you guys who bought “Automatic City” will stand by until everything starts up again.

Thanks so much, and I will see you all again soon. Thanks for everything.

Max

Staff Recommendations October 8th 2006

I’m going back in time with this weeks recommendation. Mourning September was/is a great band on Floodgate Records, their sound is comparable to Forever Changed, and for that I was instantly hooked on this album. The band is currently on hold (meaning we probably won’t hear anything new from them anytime soon, they do have a newer demo on their MySpace page, and Brandon has joined Mike Kelly to play guitar) but be sure to check out their album A Man Can Change His Stars if you get the chance.

I still can’t get the new Decemberists record out of my player. This week I will make it short and sweet. Do your self a favor and go to Best Buy and buy one of the best records for only $7.99. If you have ever like Denison Witmer, Sufjan Stevens, or the likes. Then you will be thanking me later for this recommendation. For that, you’re welcome.

The Killers – Sam’s Town:Ԛ  I know that pretty much everyone allready has an opinion on this band, but put aside whatever your previous feelings were about The Killers or Hot Fuss, and listen to Sam’s Town for a moment.Ԛ  The songs are more diverse, the vocals are better & the instruments are more complex.Ԛ Ã”šÃ‚  Instead of falling into the sophmore slump, the band took a chance with this album and sucessfully created in my opinion one of the best albums of the year.
