Chase Pagan Releases Free EP Through InSound

March 22, 2007 By Bryce Jacobson Leave a Comment

Militia Group artist Chase Pagan has released his stylistically-expansive debut EP, The Chase Pagan EP, for free at InSound.

The EP consists of five stellar cuts, including a spot-on cover of Queen’s “Play the Game” (#5). Tracks 1-3 are from Pagan’s forthcoming debut, Oh Musica– while tracks 4 & 5 are from “The Lost Recordings”, and were produced by the acclaimed Ross Robinson (The Cure, At the Drive-in). Such talented musicians as Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction), and Gretta Cohn (Cursive) appear on the recording.

Carried by Pagan’s lilting falsetto and charismatic, sometimes fantastical songwriting, the forthcoming Oh, Musica is a debut of impressive scope. Whether it’s the bouncy reincarnation romp “Waltzing in the Sky”, the impassioned tango inside “Spanish Tongue”, or the rich upright bass and crashing keys of closer “Viola” the realization of Pagan’s expansive ambitions is an enchanting one. His distinctively orchestral, vaudevillian style, paired with his natural, organic and unpretentious essence make for a pleasing catharsis. “My music is a fantasy that I live in”, says Chase– and his songs positively reflect that.

Lovedrug – Everything Starts where it Ends

February 18, 2007 By David Gagnon Leave a Comment

Lovedrug

Artist: Lovedrug
Album: Everything Starts Where it Ends
Label: The Militia Group
Purchase: Smark Punk
Release Date: March 6th, 2007

Overall: 8.9
Music: 9.0
Lyrics: 8.8
Production: 8.9

This four piece from Canton, Ohio hope to open your mind and catch your ears all at the same time. Now, many faithful concert goers will have already heard of these guys seeing as they have been touring with such acts as Matchbook Romance, Eisley, The Juliana Theory, Acceptance, Copeland, Mae, and Action Action over the past few years. This, Lovedrugs second major full length release, Everything Starts Where it Ends, is the follow up to the 2004 Pretend You’re Alive, also released on Militia, an may leave you questioning yourself, “where have I been?”

The cd itself is faily moody and will more then likely require a solid listen through, I chose to pop it into my yamaha suround sound for an optimal listening experience, and I was blown away. Atmosphereic rock at it’s best! For example, theyԚ make perfect use of a piano ballad with crunchy guitars to keep you wishing the track “Salt of the Earth” continued on for another 10 minutes. (**I hit repeat)

Sorry to say this, because I just can’t hold back, but anyone who hasn’t been able to remove Mutemath’s self titled from their cd changer can at long last rejoice! At last!!

If your already a fan, or just plain interested,Ԛ be sure to check your local listings as Lovedrug is set to go on tour with Plain White T’s beginning in early March 2007.

Tahiti 80 – Fosbury

November 10, 2006 By Tyler Hayes 1 Comment

Tahiti 80 Fosbury

Artist: Tahiti 80
Album: Fosbury
Label: The Militia Group
Purchase: Smart Punk
Release Date: November 14, 2006

Overall: 8.0
Music: 8.0
Lyrics: 7.9
Production: 8.0

This album has something for most people looking to have a little fun and step outside the four chord, tradition “scene” band. With a little bit of dance, a little bit groove, and a lot of smooth pop vocals, “Fosbury (us edition)” really does shake things up in the all too often predictable music world.

Songs like “Big Day”, “Changes”, and “Chinatown” really bring the beats and make it hard to stay sitting down. Other songs on the record such as “Cherry Pie”, and “Alloveragain” slow it down a tad while really coming through big time on the melody.

“Fosbury” has two sides to it, one is the energetic pop side and the other is the mellower, almost somber side. It’s seems more and more rare to hear such a diverse record anymore. Both, and actually all, styles on the record are good in their own context, but at the same time it does make it hard to label this band as a certain genre because they do venture into many.

Whether you throw this record on in the background while having people over, or you’re listening by yourself I’m pretty sure, given the chance, this is a disc that will be well received by most people. Apparently this record is also coming with a 4 song EP. The EP includes a remix of â┚¬Ã…”Changesâ┚¬? and a cover of â┚¬Ã…”Happy Togetherâ┚¬? in addition to two other songs. With a total of 17 songs this release defenitly becomes well worth the price. I encourage you to check out a song or too if you have been getting tired of the same old thing over and over again.

Tracklisting
1. Big Day
2. Changes
3. Here Comes…
4. Chinatowun (US Exclusive Song)
5. Alloveragain
6. Something About You Girl
7. Take Me Back
8. Your Love Shines
9. Matter Of Time
10. One The Run
11. Cherry Pie
12. Somebody New (US Exclusive Song)
13. Empty And Amused
