Do you remember those songs on “In Defense of the Genre…” that never really caught your attention? Well, if you’d like to buy those songs with a generally forced upbeat vibe to it, this cd is going to be perfect for you. I’m not sure what Max Bemis was really thinking; clearly he didn’t choose to focus on how this cd was going to be received. I’ve loved Say Anything in the past, but I won’t buy this cd. I’m glad I didn’t pre-order this (out of fear), and the only sense of joy I have surrouding the release of this cd is that I didn’t purchase the ninety dollar deluxe edition. It’s great that Bemis is finally finding somewhere in his personal life that he can accept himself and move forward, but let’s not kid ourselves– regardless of how diehard you are for this band (as I used to be), the new cd isn’t worth the money.
Parker Case, Say Anything’s guitarist/keyboardist, has a side-project called “I and the Universe.” Look it up and hope that sooner rather than later he might finally release a cd.
