I’m surprised mae didn’t make it into biggest letdown.

I was very tempted to put Mae in my letdown list.

    adam wieldman – joke.

    MCS and Straylight are TERRIBLE.
paramore is overrated because they’re young, talented, marketable and why?
do you feel will be a disappointment when john nolan learns to sing.

why is cartel cartel disappointment?????????????? it rocks

  6. Bryce Jacobson says

    January 15, 2008 at 1:22 am

@luke: Did you listen to Cartel when they first released their “Ransome” EP?

  7. Bengt Rist says

    January 15, 2008 at 1:47 pm

I’v got all Cartel releases, and just as Luke, I dont understand why “Cartel” is such a disappointment.I’v got to admit, it was not an instant favorite of mine after I listened to it the first time, but after a couple more spins it grew on me, and even became one of last years favorites. So for those who discarded it after that first or second spin,I suggest you give it a couple more. Chances are, you might just feel differently about it.

For me Cartel’s first EP was amazing and they did a nice follow up with “Chroma”. I was expecting their self-titled to be another great release but for me it was a disappointment because it didn’t seem to push them musically. The release did grow on me a bit with listening to it more, but I still felt like it was nothing I hadn’t heard before.

Bryce,I also noticed that you wasnt to happy about “make it blur” by June and “singularity” by Mae. I just wanted to say that I had the same experiance with those two albmus as I did with “Cartel”.I was pleasantly surprised to see that you have included Angels And Airwaves among your top ten(did not expect that), many critics had that one on their let down list. The album that I have ranked as nr.1 this year is The Starting Line – direction, an album that is custom made for the american marked, and to my big surprise has been overthrown or just ignored of both the audience and the critics. Well, as a foreigner it is a little hard to understand, would you please share your thoughts about that.

This year was rather hard for me to put my list together. Most years I’m struggling to pick which albums will make the top of my list because there are so many to choose from, however this year I didn’t have to many top albums to choose from. On that note, June and Mae were a disappointment they same reason Cartel was. They didn’t make anything I haven’t heard before. Angels & Airwaves, although a bit of a disappointment for me, made my list because I listened to it a lot and it came out being an ok album even though they didn’t push much change either.

You’ll find that your music taste becomes pickier and more “fine tuned” if you may call it when you get older. Its actually hard to deal with sometimes because you wish you could like everything they way you did when you were younger.

ok i know this is like an american website (i think) but really?? have not one of you heard of skins the tv series in the uk???? i guess you dont know about it then?? becuse none have put them in their top ten tv shows.

    it’s actually amazing!!!! watch it!!!

and i agree about the cartel album: once you give it a couple of listens it’s really good!! saw them aswell and they play every note perfect so they atleast deserve a bit of credit!!! c’mon!!
